Will a Lcd Hdtv with built in TV tuner pickup regular channels?

Will a LCD HDTV with built in TV tuner pick up and channels without a antenna? We do not have cable or satellite, just an antenna (rabbit ears). Do I still have to plug the antenna into the TV or will it automatically pickup the channels? thanks for any help.
And if I need to connect an atenna, will the picture still be “fuzzy” if not getting good reception?

On an old analog channel, a poor or missing antenna will get you a snowy picture or just a lot of white, snowy static. On a digital channel, you will get nothing at all except perhaps a “no signal” message on your screen.

With digital TV, you need the best antenna you can come up with. If you are limited to an indoor antenna, a simple rabbit ears with a round loop UHF element won’t suffice if you’re not in a very strong signal area.

See the link below for the kind of indoor antenna that you may require.
