Plasma Hdtvs
Does anyone know if a laserdisc player will play on these new HDTVs?
I love laserdiscs & my 32inch analog tv but i guess one day i will be forced to buy one of these thin body Lcd Or Plasma Tvs. Does anyone know if laserdisc players or even a vcr will play on them. I own a dvd player also but i enjoy running laserdiscs every night.
You can hook up these older devices to your Hdtv. However, if the LD player doesn’t support widescreen, you’ll probably end up with a 4:3 “box ” on your HDTV with bars on the sides, and then that will be letterboxed so you’ll have bars on the top/bottom as well. You can probably reduce this to some extent using the HDTV’s zoom settings.
DVD players, however, can support 16:9 – especially if you get an upscaling player. These players will take the native DVD resolution, and upscale it to the Hd Resolution of your TV. This will result in a full screen image with no black bars above/below or left/right (well, unless the original show was in 4:3…) I know of no LD player that can do this, but at least you’ll be able to view your LDs on a new Hdtv In some form or another.
